Wo ich war? Hier, und zwar auf der (in diesem Jahr) dritten Frauenfreizeit unter dem Thema: Du stellst meine Füße auf weiten Raum. In diesem Haus wird frau mit Leib, Seele und Geist verwöhnt: Interessante Vorträge, Ausflüge, ausgezeichnetes Essen, gediegene Atmosphäre, Seelsorge (nach Bedarf), schöne Musik und, und, und… Ich bin wirklich begeistert, und sicherlich nicht das letzte Mal dort gewesen.
Besonders spannend fand ich die Vorträge von Frau Sigwart, die uns etwas über die Beziehungen zwischen leiblicher und geistlicher Ernährung berichtet hat. Ganz neue Perspektiven. Die meisten der Vorträge (von Frau Sigwart leider nur einer erhältlich) sind als MP3-Vorträge, als CD oder Kassette zu bekommen, manche kann man aus dem Katalog auch herunterladen. Da dieses Werk nur von seiner Arbeit und Spenden lebt, wird auch für heruntergeladene Vorträge ein Obulus erbeten.
Und auch kräftig gestrickt habe ich. Ein Paar Socken und ein Paar Müffchen sind fertig, ein weiteres Paar Müffchen wartet auf die Fertigstellung, die aber nicht mehr allzu lange auf sich warten lassen dürfte. Die Socken sind aus Opal, die Müffchen aus verschiedenen Resten, die ich nicht mehr zuordnen kann.
Eigentlich hatte ich ja für zwei Paar Socken Wolle mit. Uneigentlich habe ich das zweite Knäuel meiner Freundin E. verkauft, die daraus ihrer Tochter ein Paar Socken stricken möchte. Und da ich vorsichtshalber Nadelspiele und zusätzliche Nadeln eingepackt hatte, konnte ich die Tochter überzeugen, doch auch mal wieder Nadeln in die Hand zu nehmen. Die anderen Mitfahrerinnen haben auch gestrickt, und einer davon konnte ich das Sockenstricken beibringen. In den nächsten Tagen kommen ganz sicherlich Bilder (auf Flickr sind sie schon unbearbeitet/unsortiert/unbenamst zu sehen). Einiges fürs Project Spectrum ist entstanden. Für heute nur dieses hier:

I was away on a retreat for 6 days, and it was simply wonderful. I was
My knitting was a pair of socks, and I’m sure I would’ve made almost another pair – but I sold my second full ball to one of my friends. And since I had spare sets of DPNs and leftovers of sockwool I could lure another friend who hasn’t knitted in a long time into using needles again (she made cuffs). Another friend got instructions in sock knitting. And the fourth one was knitting a cardigan.
I used one of my leftover balls to make a pair of cuffs, and started on yet another one. I was so happy to have these leftovers, because otherwise, horror of horrors, I would’ve been without knitting for two days.
I made lots of photos, and I’ll show some of them during the next few days. I also made some photos that will be a good addition to Project spectrum, as were all my projects.

This had to be expressed in English, I dunno why, it just flowed out of me. I don’t want to call it poetry, since English isn’t my mother tongue. It just came about when viewing the newest photos of Project Spectrum. The artistry is breathtaking. So whoever hasn’t looked at the Project Spectrum Flickr Group missed something.

Das Foto ist grottenschlecht, deshalb sehr stark bearbeitet worden, aber ich denke, man sieht, worum es geht: Socken in Marineblau mit 3/1-gerippten Schäften und farbigen Ringeln im Bund, außerdem einer farblich passenden Ferse und Spitze. Die Anregung stammt aus dem “Ultimativen Sockenbuch” von Klöpper/Schoen. Wie gesagt, die Anregung stammt daher. Ich habe weder die verkürzte Ferse noch einen glatt rechts gestrickten Schaft noch eine einseitige Fußspitze gestrickt.
Auf dem Bild im Buch sieht man, warum ich die verkürzte Ferse nicht mag: die Maschen-”Spalten” (also nicht Reihen) auf dem Rist spreizen sich sehr, ziehen sich zu stark auseinander, d. h. letztlich sitzt diese Ferse nicht besonders gut. Zumindest nicht, wenn man sie über die Hälfte der Maschen strickt, wie in den meisten Büchern angegeben.
Hier noch die technischen Daten:
I got the idea from the German book “Das Ultimative Sockenbuch” von Klöpper/Schoen, which has quite some nice sock ideas. I followed the pattern only in the number of rows for the stripes at the top, and the general idea of red/green heels and toes. I used a 3/1-ribbing for the leg, a heel flap in heel stitch, a round heel and a wedge toe done with decreases taken from the Regia Sock Knitting Table (that is: after the first decrease row, do a decrease row in the 4th, 2 times in every 3rd, 3 times in every other row. From then decrease every row, until you have 16 stitches left). I always close my toes at 16 stitches using Kitchener Stitch. The book tells you to do a short row heel, a stockinette stitch leg, and an asymmetrical foot formed toe. I tried the toe, but found it horrible looking and difficult to make it really fit. Nice idea, but not practical.

ist das Project Spectrum. Letztes Jahr habe ich zwar nur punktuell mitgemacht, aber es hat Spaß gemacht. Dieses Jahr habe ich immer eine Farbe im Spektrum, die ich bedenken will, in der Hauptsache sind Socken geplant. Dies nur deshalb, weil ich in diesem Jahr sicherlich nicht zu weit aus dem üblichen ausscheren kann, da ich mit unserem Umzug und dann eingewöhnen in eine neue Sprache/Umgebung/Kultur genug zu tun habe. Da muss ich mich nicht auch noch im Hobby auf Neues einlassen. Doch ich werde sicherlich meinen Photoapparat immer mal wieder auf Dinge lenken, die dem Farbschema entsprechen.
Für die blau/weiß/graue Phase ist meine Wahl natürlich auf meine Lieblingsfarbe blau gefallen. Da werden ein Paar Segler-Socken auf dem Programm stehen. Außerdem hoffe ich, in dieser Zeit vielleicht die Trachtenstrümpfe fertig zu stellen, das wäre dann weiß. Und grau ist der Himmel in dieser Zeit sicherlich noch oft, und es wird entsprechende Fotos geben.
Im April/Mai mit Grün/Gelb/Pink werde ich mir etwas Pinkes ausdenken, ich habe noch genug Knäuel, die diese Richtung vertreten. Außerdem könnte da endlich mal mein Twinset fertig werden, das viel pink enthält. Aber vielleicht werde ich auch mal Grün andenken, denn diese Farbe ist für mich eher ungewöhnlich. Mein Mann entwickelt sich mittlerweile immer mehr in diese Farb-Richtung. Da werde ich eventuell auch zukaufen müssen. Gelb ist so gar nicht mein Ding, aber im Mai gibt es sicherlich genug Blumen und Blüten in diesen Farben, die ich ablichten kann.
Juni und Juli werden wohl die stressigsten Monate werden, und da habe ich noch eine gut abgelagerte Mikrofaser rumfliegen, die mit Bordeaux zu rot passt (Pulli, wahrscheinlich RVO), außerdem wäre da noch mein Wunsch nach schwarzen Socken (grausel – nicht so sehr wegen der Farbe an sich, sondern weil man bei dunklen Socken so wenig sieht, was man tut. Glatt rechts oder 3-1-Rippen wäre also das Muster der Wahl). Und mit Glitzer kann ich mich natürlich anfreunden, da könnte ich sogar mal experimentieren. Allerdings, viel Zeit werde ich in diesen Monaten dem Stricken wahrlich nicht widmen können. Vielleicht passen ja auch einige der Renovierungsarbeiten, die Einrichtung etc. in dieses Schema?
Im August und September sind dann Braun/orange/violett(lila) dran. Braun wäre Anlass, für meinen lieben Mann was zu tun. Da dies nach dem Umzug ist, ist mein Wollkauf-Verbot dann gelockert, also mal schaun, was sich ergibt. Auch Orange ist eine Farbe, die ich langsam anfange zu lieben, und violett mag ich auch sehr, aber auch da habe ich noch kein konkretes Projekt. Meine Sockenwoll-Vorratskisten geben jedenfalls in dieser Richtung nicht viel her, auch nicht die anderen Vorräte. Auch hier wird die Umgebung (vor allem Ausflüge in und um München) sicherlich viel für die Kamera hergeben.
Last year I participated only on a few colors, but I liked the idea anyway. This year I will participate some more, even if I don’t have that much time to devote to hobbys due to our move in June. We will be moving from Cologne to Munich, which means new language/surroundings/culture. (Yes, moving from west to south in Germany means a lot of change – I’ll be crossing the language border between northern and southern dialects, and bavarian culture really *is* different.) This is why I’m sure I’ll not experiment much, because there will be so many new things for me anyway, and lots of stress, which tends to makes me uncreative. I’m sure there will be lots of photos for the color combinations to share.
For the blue/white/grey phase I’ll of course choose something blue. Blue is my favourite color and I’m planning for a pair of sailor socks for a good friend. Maybe I’ll finish my Trachten Knee Socks during that time, which are white. And I’m sure I’ll point my camera skywards quite often, where you can see lots of grey in early Spring (we haven’t even had winter this year!).
For April/May with the green, yellow and pink color scheme I’ll pick something pink. There is lots of sock yarn in my stash that fits the scheme. I could also finish my twin set, which has lots of pink (but not exclusively). Perhaps I’ll think up something green, but this color is quite unusual for me. My husband tends to this color lately, so maybe I’ll have to add it to my stash. I’m not a friend of yellow, but I’m sure that there’ll be enough flowers to be photographed.
The June/July theme will be easy for me, because I like all of these colors. I’m planning a pair of black socks for me, and for red there would be that well marinated micro fiber yarn in my stash that is supposed to become a raglan sweater for me. I love everything glittery, so there’s lots of room for experiments. However, the move will be during that time, so there will not be much time for crafting to spare. Maybe some of the renovation/furnishing will yield some photos to match the theme.
For August/September nothing is planned yet. Brown would be something for hubby. Since this is after the move my yarn diet will be less strict at that time (right now till the move it is strictly knit from your stash, and don’t start more projects), I’m sure I’ll be able to add these colors to my stash (there is almost no brown or orange, and only a bit purple in the stash). We’ll see. Orange is a color that I like (didn’t for a long time), and violet I love anyway. But there is nothing planned right now. But I’m sure we will meet lots of color during our discovery trips through Munich, so there will be plenty of photos.
A note for my English readers: I’ll not translate word for word what I’m writing in German, but the overall sense will be maintained of course. I’m not really translating, but writing my thoughts down in English. Sometimes there will be differences because I don’t know how to say something in English, or because I have to give some more infos to my English readers because they can’t read my German-only posts. Year’s End Knit-analysis
1. What is your absolute favorite project you’ve ever knit (one that fulfilled both process and product)?
Ralfs Janker. Sowohl das Stricken war klasse (wunderbare Wolle, interessantes Muster) und ich seh das Stück auch gerne. Es hat sich gelohnt, dieses Jahr nochmal alle Blenden auszutauschen.
Ralf’s Janker. I loved knitting it (wonderful wool, interesting stitch patterns) and I love to see it. It was really worth the trouble to reknit all the borders this year.
2. Which of your handknits do you wear the most often?
Ich denke, meine gute, alte Mohair-Jacke. Sie ist riesig, ich habe sie gestrickt, bevor die Kinder da waren, und sie hat mich Winter für Winter zu Hause schön gewärmt.
I think it is my good, old Mohair-Cardigan. It is huge, I knitted it before I had children, and it warmed me every winter at home.
3. Which of your handknits are you most proud of?
Wieder Ralfs Janker. Er ist mein bisher am besten gelungenes Stück, sowohl, was die Muster angeht, als auch von der Passform her.
Again Ralf’s Janker. The best ever fitting garment, and also wonderful stitch patterns.
4. What was your favorite gift to knit?
Socken. Es geht schnell, sie sind nützlich, und jeder mag sie.
Socks. They are fast to knit, they are useful, and everybody likes them.
5. Which of your handknits are gathering dust your closet?
Einige meiner Socken. Entweder sind die Schäfte zu lang, oder etwas anderes an der Passform stimmt nicht. Ich trage sie nur, wenn alle anderen in der Wäsche sind. Trotzdem mag ich sie nicht wegwerfen.
Some of my Socks. They either have too long shafts, or somehting else is wrong with their fit. I only wear them when all others are in the wash. Still I don’t want to ditch them.
6. Which of your handknits have you gotten rid of?
Ein Dreieckstuch, das ich vor langer Zeit einmal aus Resten gestrickt habe. Ich habe es gestrickt, um es statt einer Mütze auf dem Fahrrad zu tragen. Damals mochte ich keine Mützen. Ich habe es nicht mehr benutzt, deshalb flog es raus. Das war zu einer Zeit, als Dreiecktücher absolut out waren. Heute wäre es absolut in.
A triangular Shawl I knitted from leftovers in blue shades a long, long time ago. I knitted it to wear it instead of a hat when riding my bicycle. I hated hats at that time. I never used it, so it had to go. That was at a time when triangular Shawls were very out. Today it would be en vogue again.
7. If you’ve knit socks, what is your favorite pattern?
Meine Standard-Umschlag-Socken. Von oben nach unten gestrickt, ansonsten Konstruktion wie hier.
My own standard-pattern with the leg mainly in 2 by 2 rib for 60 rows, Rest of leg, heel and foot in Stockinette, with the flat and kitchenered toe and a french (?) heel. Plus I’m of the top-down persuasion.
8. What would you like to make in 2007?
Viele Socken, größtenteils für meine eigene Familie. Außerdem möchte ich vor unserem Umzug so viele WIPs und UFOs wie möglich fertigstellen.
Lots of socks, mostly for my family this year, and then until our move I’d like to finish as many WIPs and UFOs as possible.
9. What have you learned about your craft in 2006?
Ziemlich viel: Sachen aufribbeln, die ich nicht mehr mag, auf die perfekte Anleitung für ein Garn warten, von dem ich nicht weiß, was ich damit anfangen soll, einiges an Technik, insbesondere viele kleine Tricks aus dem Internet, die den Strickalltag leichter machen (z. B. die Verwendung von Rettungsleinen).
A lot: To rib things I don’t like any more, to wait for the perfect pattern for the yarn I don’t know what to do with, lots of technique things, most of them little tricks from the Internet that just make knitting easier (e. g. the use of lifelines in lace knitting).
10. What events/sites have you particularly enjoyed in the blogosphere in 2006?
Die Projekt Spektrum-Seite, und natürlich all die Blogs, die ich lese, denn sie sind unterhaltsam, geben mir Stoff zum Nachdenken, zum Lesen, zum Stricken usw. Und dann natürlich die persönlichen Begegnungen bei den Stricktreffen bei Daniela.
